Campden Food Research report
Childswickham started the season in style by winning their first game of the season against Campden food research. CCC fielded first and came up against two attacking opening batsmen. Some big hits saw Campden get off to a good start. The change of bowling and introduction of Danny Sherry (1-17) saw the first wicket fall. Rhys John started at the other end and also chipped away at the opposition batsmen (3-27). New player Jack England nearly took a wicket with his first ball and was on a hat trick at one point. He bowled superbly to finish with 3 wickets (3-3).
Excellent fielding saw Campden finish 95 all out. Having played indoor cricket over the winter John Morrison and Nick Bateman opened the batting and got us off to a great start. They picked off the bad ball well and Nick played the shot of the day with a majestic cover drive. They scored 17 and 13 and we were 50 for 3 at the half way point. A useful 13 from John and then Danny Sherry (23) including a huge 6 saw us home. A really pleasing result and an enjoyable evening. Well done all.
Alderton Match Report
Childswickham CC were back in action last night against Alderton looking to secure a second win of the season. Our best wishes go to Jonny who was unable to take the field and hope he is ok. This meant Welsh Wizard John stepped up as Captain. Losing the toss we were put in on a green track at Broadway. A steady opening stand from Dave and Nick ended with a catch and a run out. Jack G and James H formed a good 3rd wicket stand and moved the scoring along. Jack retiring on 26 and James out for 24. Jack nearly taking out umpire Grant with a vicious straight drive! John and the middle order tried to get going but tight bowling and swift fielding kept us at bay. We finished on 91 from our 20 overs. Eric opened the bowling and struggled with the slope as their batsmen targeted the leg side. Jack E tried hard to stem the runs but Alderton got off to a flier! John had to use some different bowlers and some inventive field placing to get us back in the game. The introduction of Groves and Sherry nearly turned the game on its head. Suddenly, Alderton slipped to 85-9 and we were in with a shout. Two catches and a run out from John helping to turn the screw. Jack finished with 3 for 8 and Danny 4 for 11. A nervous finish for the opposition captain saw them home. Another good all round effort from everyone ended in a close finish.
Alderton 1st August
Childswickham Cricket Club returned to action last night at Overbury against Alderton. Losing the toss we were put into bat. A few changes to the order as NIck Bateman and James Hands open the batting. Hands was out to a ball that reared up and was caught at square leg. Eric was promoted to 3 and started with a lofted straight drive for 1. However he was out to a low straight ball in the next over. Danny Sherry was in next and chipped a ball to cover and was caught. We were in trouble at 10 for 3. Dibs Harrison came in next and was also deceived by a low straight ball. The welsh wizard was next and slowly started to rebuild with Nick who hit some classical drives through the off side. He was next out for 18. New player Tommo came in next and we slowly got the score to some where near competitive. Tommo with some neat reverse sweeps and scoops. John was more classical through the off side. John retired on 25 and Tommo was out for 24. Jack England lofted a 4 in the last over for us to finish on 85. The bowling started well with Tommo and new face Craig starting well. Craig took 2 wickets to start the innings off. Henry Rose bowled next and contributed to a run out. Tight bowling and good fielding kept Alderton at bay and we were well placed after 10 overs. John came into the attack and took 2 wickets with an excellent caught behind from Dibs and a catch from Jack England. The welsh wizard was then jumping up and down for a lbw which was turned down. This turned the game in Alderton’s favour as they nudged their way back into the game. Their wicket keeper with some hard hitting to take the game. A wicket in the final over nearly turned it back out way but they got the runs needed. Another close performance and thanks to everyone who played. Well done Isaac Nixon for returning to bowling form with 2 overs for 8 runs and Henry for his excellent fielding.
